Body positivity : the end of an era ?
A breath of fresh air after years, not to mention generations, of witnessing the glorification of thin bodies at the expense of midsize women and those with fuller figures. Slender bodies, without wrinkles or blemishes, without stretch marks or cellulite, achieved through intense social pressure, diets, and photo retouching. This period, when, for a time, the beauty of all bodies was recognized : thin, curvy, with or without marks, with or without "flaws", even though these so-called "flaws" don't actually exist, is a pejorative label that has been applied to the diversity of bodies, and what is often perfectly normal. Well, I have a scoop : despite the shift in the fashion world and the return of emaciated models to the catwalks, this parenthesis of body positivity is far from over, and it never will be. Because no matter what the media tells us, women's bodies are and always will be different. Life will continue to leave its mark on these bodies, the memories of their experiences : stretch marks, scars, blemishes, and expression lines, these marks of life that tell us who we are and make us unique. Curvy, thin, short, tall, we cannot be anything other than what life has made us. So let's embrace our bodies, our pasts, our presents, and let the world adapt.
